Apparently, this is a very well regarded, pro quality horn and the same model as played by jazz great Bix Biederbecke. It is the "early" version which features an "opera glass" micro-tuning mechanism. This is the first time it is being offered for sale after being stored in its case for at least the past 40 years, if not longer.
The cornet appears to be in great condition for its age, nice and clean. I had a friend who used to play trumpet in school try to play it, and we had a nice little jazz jam with me on drums. The cornet has a great tone and the three valves vary the pitch, as they should, to play a melody. The guy was decades out of practice and could not fully evaluate the horn, but it is more or less playable.
There are a few small minor dings here and there but nothing major. The pearl button valves have nice action, they press down easily and spring right back. The covers on the bottom screw off and on easily. The water keys work. The little elbows at front and rear come out easily, as does the mouthpiece. The little threaded rod on the bottom is a little loose at one of its connectors. I noticed no damage beyond typical wear due to age or any corrosion anywhere beyond typical tarnish due to age. I did not attempt to clean it in any way, but it should shine up nicely. Case is also in very good condition, some wear but nice and clean.
Of course, any 90+ year old instrument will require some kind of service, so please expect that. Therefore, sold AS IS, no return. Any questions - just ask.
Will be very carefully packed.
